Anderson Nature Park

Title

Anderson Nature Park

Description

"Anderson Park is located in Sections 35 and 36 of the Township and is the largest land acquisition project undertaken by the Township. The property had been a high priority item since the preparation of the 1971 Interim Recreation Plan. In December of 1976 the Gladys Olds Anderson family donated 58.4 acres of this land to the Township to be used as a passive recreation area for future generations (1)."

In March of 1978 Mrs. Anderson was received the U.S. Department of Interior Outdoor Recreation Award during the dedication ceremony of Anderson Park that held at Woldumar Nature Center (2).

"Utilizing the value of this donation and $11,200 of its own funds the Township applied for and received grants from the Federal Land and Water Conservation and the Michigan Land Trust Fund totaling $233,900 to purchase an additional 92.9 acres of land for the park. With a total of 151.3 acres now included in Anderson Park the property is planned as a major community park (1)."
