Silas E Millett (1818-1887) was born in Vermont in 1818. By 1845 S.E. Millett was living in Eaton Township. According to Eaton Bugle, "S. E. Millett & Co. have permanently established themselves in the village of Charlotte, Eaton Co., Mich., where they intend to keep all kinds of goods usually found in a country store, which they are determined to sell (for ready pay only) as cheap as any establishment in the western country." The firm advertised for sale brush and beaver hats, broadcloths, cassimeres, eassinetts, and Tweed's cloth, and wanted 100,000 bushels of ashes, in exchange for goods, to be delivered at their ashery in Charlotte.(1)"

He served as Easton County Sheriff from from 1846-1848. In 1849 he purchased land in Benton Township in section 34 & 35 and also section 34 in Caramel Township and by 1850 was living in Caramel Township.

From 1853-1854 he served as Eaton County Superintendent. He served as the first postmaster of a rural post office identified as Camp Creek. The post office operated from May 14, 1856 until February 21, 1862 (2). Silas was replaced as postmaster in 1859 by Henry Weyard. By 1865 he had already relocated to Delta Township and founded a small hamlet named Millett in the Southeast corner of Delta Township.

He married Margaret E. Condon and had two children Augusta S. Millett who later married Josiah Burton Munson and Fred S. Millett. Silas passed away in November of 1887 and is buried at Delta Center Cemetery.
