Delta Mills School

Title

Delta Mills School

Description

The first school in Delta Township was built in 1839 on what is now the corner of Delta River Drive and Ingersoll Road. The school was a one-room wood frame structure that could seat up to sixty-five students and the first school teacher was Lydia Ingersoll, daughter Moses Ingersoll. In 1940 the building was remodeled and a second classroom was added. The township district was annexed to the Grand Ledge School District in 1956. The old Delta Mills school building was replaced in 1958 with a modern 12 classroom structure that also included a gym, offices and a cafeteria. It was used by the Grand Ledge School District until 1982 then sold to the Lansing First Church of the Nazarene and used as a day care until approximately 2014.

In 2016, the Grand Ledge Public Schools repurchased the building and 11 acre property for approximately $260,000 with plans to remodel the building and open a second early childhood center.
