Millett

Description

Millett or Millett's Station is a small hamlet in the southeast part of Delta Township, at one point it contained a saw-mill (or oar-factory), a post-office, and a few dwellings. A village plat was laid out on Decembe. 3, 1874, by Silas E. Millett and others. According to History of Ingham and Eaton Counties (1880) it was on the line of the Chicago and Grand Trunk Railway with trains stopping only on signal.

The post office was established on May 14, 1877 (1). Postmasters include Charles R. Parmelee, John Crane and William H. Crane. Mail messenger service was discontinued on July 30, 1910 and superseded by Rural Free Delivery service (2).

In 1890 the Millet Depot was built on the Grand Trunk Western Railway to serve the small farming community. The depot operated until the 1950's. Then in 1957 it was rented and eventually purchased and relocated by the Lansing Model Railroad Club with the help from a donation by Gladys Olds Anderson (3).
